Salvation Army
Utsjånad
The Salvation Army [jeshi la wokovu] established a profound connection with the Luhya community after arriving in Vihiga in 1923. The region’s rapid spiritual and numerical growth led to the historic creation of the [Kenya West Territory] in 2008,establishing its headquarters in Kakamega. Deeply integrated into Luhya culture, the church infuses traditional brass bands with local dialect and rythm. Beyond spiritual leadership, this partnership has left a lasting social legacy across Western Kenya, pioneering specialized schools for children with disabilities, sponsoring prominent educational institutions, and driving vital agricultural development initiatives throughout the community.
