Kithaka wa Mberia is a professor in the department of Linguistics and Languages, University of Nairobi, where he has taught for close to four decades. He is a poet and a playwright writing in Kiswahili, Africas largest indigenous language. Besides academic papers in peer-reviewed journals, he has also published seven anthologies of poetry and three plays namely Death at the Well [Kifo Kisimani'], 'Natala', Flowers in the Morning Sun [Maua kwenye Jua la Asubuhi], that have been performed in the Kenya National Theatre, Nairobi. He has recited his poetry, that is mainly inspired by political and economic realities in Africa, in several countries including Kenya, Tanzania, USA, Iran, Poland, Germany and Italy.
