GOING AGAINST THE NORM

In the village of Chepkoech Baringo County, the name Linda Kemboi has become well known among dairy farmers because of her efforts to ensure livestockremain healthy. Linda, who is 27 years old, is a veterinary doctor and a farmers’ trainer, a career she pursued because of the love she developed for livestock from a young age. After studying veterinary medicine at Kisii University, she first worked in a veterinary drug shop before securing a position at Langas Co-operative in 2021 as an extension officer in Eldama Ravine.

Every day, Linda meets farmers to train them on proper animal nutrition, disease prevention, and ways of increasing milk production. Despite the demanding responsibilities, she says her passion for helping farmers and her love for animals give her the motivation to keep going. Her dream is to become more independent and build a better life through her profession. However, the job also comes with challenges, Linda says some people still believe women cannot handle livestock-related jobs. Nevertheless, she has not given up. She continues to work hard while encouraging other women to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams. To her, success comes through determination, patience, and believing that everyone has the ability to succeed.
